korea 2020
good times with good people
A different sort of trip… on Christmas day of 2019 I was off to Seoul. However, this time, it was for university exchange. My time in Seoul would consisted of 3 weeks of study at Korea University (KU) and a week skiing with my girlfriend afterwards.
KU was hella intense, not gonna lie. 3 weeks of doing a finance subject, with classes every single week-day and classes would go from 9-12PM. I was lucky enough to meet some people on my first day which would form the group that I would hang out with for the rest of the trip, consisting of 3 from Melb and 2 from Sydney.
We all had different schedules as 2 of us had classes in the morning, whereas the others had classes after lunch. This meant that we would meet up around 5pm where study was an afterthought.
The university was great to us. This is where I was lucky enough to learn skiing, and even had the opportunity to do a Korean cooking class and they even took us to an amusement park!
There wasn’t any itinerary that I went off and more or less planned everything by the day with the rest of the group.
My travel dates were: 25th Dec - 25th of Jan.
I have a couple of recommendations listed below but this was merely because we went to some of these places quite often! I hope these images can give you a taste of my time at KU. I had a great time and met some great people that I’m still close with today.
For me, exchange was. quite spontaneous and I pulled the trigger a month and. a half before it started. I’m so glad I did and strongly recommend it to anyone thinking of doing one.
my recommendations
Go check out Dongdaemun Market.
Night out in Itaewon
Visit Starfield Library
Eat Sulbing (video above)
Dongdaemun Market
Put this as number 1 on the list to visit. An old fashioned market that sells virtually everything. Clothing, toys, stationery to clothes. My highlight here was the bibimbap and the dumplings that are cooked by the so called ‘grandmas.’ You can really taste the effort and hard work that has gone into the meal.
Itaewon
Great area to wonder at night with friends. This area is filled with bars and has a sprawling nightlife. We bar hopped while we were there and I recommend the same! There are also karaoke booths all over, so you could definitely finish your night there!
Starfield Library
Not sure you’ll see a library anywhere near what this looks like! The fact that it is situated in the middle of a mall says it all… go for a shop and then relax and read a book!
Sulbing
Iconic for its ice shaving desserts. Delicious and must go after dinner,
